Day in the Life

I've started walking to and from work. I thought I was lucky enough to be able to only have to take the bus to work, but I know that I'm even luckier to be able to walk there. It takes me about 45 minutes each way, which is still shorter than most people's commute. I've never liked taking the train but it seems like it's especially dangerous these days. More incidents with homeless people, or people being attacked for no reason. It's just getting out of control. The bus has its share of problems, but nothing dangerous (in my experience at least.)

What made me decided to start walking to work was the fare. Here in NYC it's $2.75. And what does that $2.75 get you? If you ride the trains, it's late trains, slow trains when they finally do come, homeless people that stink up the entire car and sometimes get violent, people getting attacked (and not even just by homeless people.) If you take the bus, it's all that minus the homeless people (well, very rarely) and the frequency of attacks by whoever. It ticked me off enough to pay $2.75 each way for buses that were frequently late and there was always either a slow driver or lots of traffic in certain areas. Then, the MTA has the audacity to raise the fare to $2.90. Now, I know what you're thinking. "What's the big deal? It's only fifteen cents more?" It's fifteen cents more on top of an already overpriced shit service. I was done. The MTA is not getting one more dime of my money unless absolutely necessary. I've been walking for a few weeks now and I'm much happier (and I'm saving $5.50 a day.)

Is any part of this city not covered in graffiti?

I walk along the river and aside from the boneheads on bicycles who zip along the lanes like they're training for the Tour de France, or people who insist on walking on their left, meaning those of us who correctly walk on our right, now have to either walk around them, or if we're feeling particularly sassy, make them walk around us (after all, they're on the wrong side!) it's a mostly pleasant walk. I had started taking my camera with me to take pictures during my lunch hour, but since I've started walking to and from work, I take pictures on my way there and back as well.
I had a much better shot of the two pictures above, but of course when I got them on the computer, some guy was in the picture, squatting down to pick up his dog's crap from the sidewalk. I guess I should be glad he didn't just leave it there like a lot of people do in this city.
To be honest, a lot of things stress me out. NYC, the people, leaving the house at all (because people are out there and they stress me out!) Taking pictures helps me to deal with it until I come up with a better solution for these problems. Normally I try not to overlap too many pictures with Instagram and the blog but the pictures in this blog post can also be viewed on my Instagram, which if you're reading this now, probably saw them on Instagram first. I hope you enjoy them. I wanted to do a Savannah Part 2 (a really late update to part 1), but I must have deleted the photos I wanted to use for Part 2, which sucks. Not that I deleted the photos from the trip, just the ones I wanted to use for Part 2. No big deal. I plan to go back there one day, hopefully next year.
